Coimbatore District comprises major towns of Tirupur, Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Palladam. It is number one revenue district in the state of Tamil Nadu with revenues crossing more than Rs. 6000 Crores.

Coimbatore supplies over 30 per cent of all the automotive components used in the country; several companies also cater to the international market. The city makes over 60 per cent of the water pumps and 45 percent of the motors used in India. Another recent study on the feasibility of setting up an Information Technology (IT) park in Coimbatore, by Pricewaterhouse Coopers pointed to the city as one to be watched. Coimbatore has also proved that it can take on competition, both domestic and international.

It is little known fact that the city of Coimbatore, Located in the foot hills of Nilgris and in the banks of river Noyyal is one of the best city in South India blessed with wonderful cool climate, serene greenery and very good water resources. It is located at the foothills of western ghats blessed with a wonderful climate and water. Coimbatore is 750MSL and average rainfall of 200mm to 300mm, temperature ranging from moderate to medium. Coimbatore district is fed with water from Noyal, Siruvani, Bhavani and Amaravathi. Siruvani, world's second purest water body is the main source of water in the city. Coimbatore district is surrounded by Nilgris District, Erode District in Tamil Nadu and Palghat District in Kerala.

The major tourist destinations like OOty, Muthumalai, Valpparai, Cochin or Kumarakom (famous for Kerala Backwater) are hardly three hours drive from the city and there are plenty of high terrains in the western ghats for adventure sports and trekking. A large number of ancient temples and monuments are there for those who are interested in pilgrimage and spirituality.

TIDEL PARK

Tidel Park Coimbatore to start functioning from Jan 2010

COIMBATORE: The much awaited IT park- Tidel park at Coimbatore is expected to start functioning from January 2010. After a three year wait, work is in full swing for building the park inside the IT & ITES special economic zone (SEZ) at Vilankurichi, behind Coimbatore Medical College.
